Le conseil d'administration de LuxGovSat S.A. vient de procéder à la nomination de Patrick Biewer au poste de directeur général. Il prendra ses fonctions au 1er juillet 2015 à la tête de cette joint-venture détenue à parts égales par l’État luxembourgeois et la société SES et dont l’objectif consiste dans l’acquisition, le lancement et l’exploitation d’un satellite à des fins de communication militaires et gouvernementales.
Âgé de 48 ans, Patrick Biewer est un cadre dirigeant de SES qui possède une expérience avérée dans les services satellite et Internet. Employé depuis 22 ans chez SES, Patrick Biewer y a exercé diverses fonctions dans les domaines de l'informatique ou dans des activités d’exploitation et de l'ingénierie qui lui ont permis d’acquérir une solide expérience dans le développement des affaires, dans la gestion de produits et en ventes et marketing. Depuis 2010, il est directeur général de SES Broadband Services (SBBS), l'entité offrant du service Internet à large bande par satellite.
Dans ses nouvelles fonctions, Patrick Biewer sera en charge de l'ensemble des activités commerciales de LuxGovSat et de la gestion des relations avec les clients.
Le Vice-Premier ministre, ministre de l’Économie, ministre de la Défense, Étienne Schneider, a déclaré: "Comme LuxGovSat a été créée et que le satellite a été commandé il y quelques mois, la nomination d’un directeur général était la prochaine étape logique de notre co-entreprise avec SES. Ce partenariat public-privé permettra au Luxembourg de remplir ses obligations de contribution croissantes en matière de défense au niveau européen et de diversifier davantage l’économie nationale dans un secteur technologique clé."

SES-16/GovSat est un satellite multimission qui utilise des fréquences militaires dédiées (bande X et bande Ka à usage militaire) pour mettre des faisceaux très puissants et totalement orientables au service de multiples missions gouvernementales. Le satellite couvrira l'Europe, le Moyen-Orient et l’Afrique. SES-16/GovSat a été commandé au fabricant de satellites Orbital ATK inc. Il sera positionné à 21,5 degrés Est et son lancement est prévu pour le deuxième trimestre 2017.

LuxGovSat appoints Patrick Biewer as CEO
Patrick Biewer has been appointed by the LuxGovSat S.A. Board of Directors as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective on 1st July 2015. Jointly held by SES and the Luxembourg Government, the company’s objectives are the acquisition, the launch and the operation of a satellite for the provision of governmental and military communication services.
Patrick Biewer is 48 years old. He is a senior SES executive with proven experience in developing a start-up business into an established operation. Patrick Biewer has been with SES for 22 years, holding positions in the areas of IT, Operations and Engineering which have supported the development of a track record in business development, product management, sales and marketing. Since 2010 he has been Managing Director of SES Broadband Services (SBBS), the entity delivering broadband internet services via satellite.
In his role as the LuxGovSat CEO, Patrick Biewer will be in charge of the development of commercial activities and of the customer relations management.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence and Minister of the Economy Étienne Schneider stated: "With LuxGovSat created and the new satellite ordered a few months ago, the appointment of a CEO was the next step in our joint project with SES. This public-private partnership will enable Luxembourg to meet its expanding obligations in European defence and to further diversify the national economy in a key technology sector."

SES-16/GovSat is a multi-mission satellite using dedicated military frequencies (X-band and military Ka-band) to provide high-power and fully steerable spot beams for multiple government-specific missions. The satellite will cover Europe, the Middle East and Africa. SES-16/GovSat, has been ordered from the satellite manufacturer Orbital ATK, Inc. It will be positioned at 21.5 degrees East and is scheduled for launch in Q2 2017.

Patrick Biewer wurde von dem Verwaltungsrat von LuxGovSat S.A. mit Wirkung zum 1. Juli 2015 zum Chief Executive Officer (CEO) ernannt. Das Ziel des Gemeinschaftsunternehmens, das zu gleichen Teilen im Besitz vom luxemburgischen Staat und SES ist, besteht aus dem Erwerb, dem Start und dem Betrieb eines Satelliten für die Bereiche Militär- und Regierungskommunikation.
Patrick Biewer ist 48 Jahre alt und eine SES-Führungskraft mit ausgewiesener Erfahrung in Satelliten- und Internet-Diensten. Er ist seit über 22 Jahren Angestellter bei SES. Patrick Biewer hat dort in unterschiedlichen Positionen in den Bereichen IT und dem Operations and Engineering eine solide Erfahrung in der Geschäftsentwicklung, dem Produktmanagement und dem Vertrieb sowie dem Marketing erlangt. Seit 2010 ist er Managing Director von SES Broadband Services (SBBS), dem für Breitband-Internetverbindungen via Satellit zuständigen Geschäftsbereich.
Im Rahmen seiner Tätigkeit als CEO von LuxGovSat wird Patrick Biewer für alle Geschäftstätigkeiten von LuxGovSat, sowie für die Beziehungen mit den Kunden verantwortlich sein.

Der SES-16/GovSat ist ein Mehrzwecksatellit, der spezielle Militärfrequenzen (X-Band und militärisches Ka-Band) nutzt, um leistungsstarke und vollständig lenkbare Spotbeams für eine Reihe von regierungsspezifischen Missionen bereitzustellen. Der Satellit wird Europa, den Nahen und Mittleren Osten sowie Afrika abdecken. Der SES-16/GovSat-Satellit wurde bei dem Satellitenhersteller Orbital ATK, Inc. in Auftrag gegeben. Nach seinem für das zweite Quartal 2017 geplanten Start wird er auf der Orbitalposition 21,5 Grad Ost stationiert.
