Asylum, Migration and International Fund (AMIF)

The Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) was established by Regulation (EU) No 516/2014 of the European Parliament and Council establishing the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund, amending Council Decision 2008/381/EC and repealing Decisions No 573/2007/EC of the European Parliament and Council and Council Decision 2007/435/EC.

Objectives

The Fund’s general aim is to assist the efficient management of migratory flows and to implement, strengthen and develop the joint asylum, subsidiary protection and temporary protection policy, and the common immigration policy, while fully respecting the rights and principles enshrined in the European Union’s Charter of fundamental rights.

The Fund shall contribute to the following common specific objectives:

  • To strengthen and develop all aspects of the common asylum system, including its external dimension
  • To support legal migration to Member States in accordance with their economic and social needs, such as labour market needs, while safeguarding the integrity of Member States’ immigration systems, and to promote the effective integration of third-country nationals
  • To enhance fair and effective return strategies in Member States which contribute to combating illegal immigration, with an emphasis on sustainability of return and effective readmission in the countries of origin and transit
  • To enhance solidarity and responsibility sharing between Member States, in particular towards those most affected by migration and asylum flows, including through practical cooperation

Resources

In Luxembourg, the Office luxembourgeois de l'accueil et de l'intégration (OLAI) (Reception and Integration Agency) has been designated as the authority responsible for implementing the AMIF. The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs’ Directorate of Immigration has been appointed the delegated authority.

Multiannual programme

The European Commission adopted the multiannual programme (in French) proposed by Luxembourg on 18 March 2015.

AMIF call for projects

Together with the Directorate of Immigration, OLAI is launching a call for projects relating to activities that can be co-financed under the implementation of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund and in accordance with the conditions for submitting a co-financing request.

The call for projects is open throughout the programme’s term until the funds have been exhausted. Two selection sessions will be organised each year, one in spring and another in autumn.

Projects

As the Fund’s delegated authority, the Directorate of Immigration is responsible for implementing activities that come under the Fund’s three specific objectives “Asylum”, “Migration and integration” and “Returns”: List of projects for which the Directorate of Immigration is acting as prime contractor (in French).

The full list of projects carried out under the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund can be consulted on the OLAI website.
