The Directorate of consular affairs and international cultural relations, in collaboration with the diplomatic and consular missions, provides consular assistance to Luxembourg nationals in distress abroad (crises, loss of identity documents, accident or serious illness, detention, etc.). The Directorate is also responsible, in close consultation with the Ministry of Culture, for the cultural promotion of Luxembourg abroad through Luxembourg's diplomatic network.
Passport, visa and legalisation office
- personalising and issuing passports, service and diplomatic passports and travel documents for foreigners, refugees and stateless persons
- the issuing of passes
- the processing of requests for visas valid for less than 90 days
- the issuing of Apostille certificates and the legalisation of documents issued by the Luxembourg authorities for submission to a foreign country's public authorities
- representation of the Ministry within European and international forums relating to the aforementioned areas
The passports, visas and legalisation office is not responsible for:
- processing requests for visas valid for more than 90 days, this being the responsibility of the Directorate of Immigration
- the processing of requests for visas for stays outside the European Union
