The head of Armenian diplomacy was received by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Xavier Bettel, for a bilateral meeting at the Mansfeld building, followed by a working lunch. The two ministers then took part in the inauguration of the office of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Luxembourg.

Minister Bettel welcomed the Armenian authorities' decision to establish a diplomatic representation in Luxembourg, which bears witness to the excellent bilateral relations between two countries that share the same values of human rights, democracy and the rule of law. The working visit provided an opportunity to deepen bilateral relations and explore ways of further strengthening political, economic and cultural cooperation.

Minister Bettel welcomed the fact that last November Armenia officially deposited its instrument of ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. The Statute officially entered into force for Armenia on 1 February 2024.

The ministers also took stock of relations between Armenia and the European Union, in the wake of the EU-Armenia Partnership Council held in Brussels, before examining the latest international developments and the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In this context, the head of Luxembourg's diplomacy recalled Luxembourg's condemnation of the Azerbaijani military operation last September, following which Luxembourg had provided humanitarian assistance in support of the displaced populations of the Nagorno-Karabakh region. Minister Bettel also reiterated the support of Luxembourg to a political and peaceful solution to the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and called for full respect for territorial integrity on the basis of the Alma-Ata declaration.
